Spirito di Vino 2011 - international competition for cartoonists
On May 28th , inauguration day of Cantine Aperte 2011, the twelfth edition of the international competition Spirito di Vino (Wine and Wit) has been lauched. The competition is organised every year by Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia together with the Istituto Europeo di Design, the Municipality and the University of Udine and the Cassa di Risparmio del Friuli Venezia Giulia. The aim of the competition is to collect and select the funniest satirical cartoons concerning the world of wine produced by cartoonists from all around the world.
Since its first edition, Spirito di Vino has been particulary focussed on young artists, who have always proved very willing to take part to the initiative. Today Movimento Turismo del Vino is still carrying out this project with passion and momentum with the aim of raising awareness, not only among young people but also among wine lovers from all around the world, on the need to drink responsibly. This year the competition will no longer be reserved just to young artists below 35 of age, as a new session of artists above 36 years of age will be opened.
Spirito di Vino has always been characterised by its international allure as, since its first edition, it has been very well received by artists from Europe, Russia, Latin America, Japan and China. This cultural mix has resulted in a rich variety of viewpoints concerning the fascinating world of wine. Thanks to Spirito di Vino, satirical cartoons become a common ground enabling participants to express their thoughts and ideas.
To take part to the competition, applicants can send their works of art from May 28th to August 31th 2011 to Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia (Via del Partidor 7 – 33100 Udine), or by visiting the website www.mtvfriulivg.it
The satirical cartoons will be assessed by a jury chaired by Alfio Krancic – president of the competition - and Giorgio Forattini – honorary president of the competition - and composed of eminent figures from the field of journalism, satire and graphics such as: Emilio Giannelli (cartoonist), Valerio Marini (cartoonist), Gianluigi Colin (Corriere della Sera art director), Franz Botré and Enzo Rizzo (director and deputy director of the magazine Spirito DiVino), Carlo Cambi (editorial manager of the magazine Wine Passion), Paolo Marchi (journalist of Il Giornale), Aldo Colonetti (scientific manager of the Istituto Europeo di Design), Fede & Tinto (Decanter RadioRai radio programme) , Francesco Salvi (actor).
After August 31th, the jury will meet at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milano to select 30 cartoons for each session. A special exhibition will be organised to put the selected cartoons on display. Then, on September 17th 2011, on the backdrop of the food and wine festival Friuli Doc, the three best cartoons of each session will be awarded a selection of wines produced by Movimento Turismo del Vino Fvg partner wineries.

This year the competition will no longer be reserved just to young artists below 35 of age, as a new session of artists above 36 years of age will be opened.

Cartoons should not exceed the dimensions of 30x40 cm in vertical (maximum three cartoons). The artwork may be in black and white or colour and may be drawn using any technique.
The award ceremony will take place on Saturday 17th September 2011 in Udine during Friuli DOC (traditional early autumn appointment with the best of the region's food, wine and typical products).
The jury will be composed by the famous cartoonists Giorgio Forattini, Emilio Gianneli, Alfio Krancic and Valerio Marini, the director of Istituto Europeo di Design of Milano Aldo Colonetti and other leading figures of the world of satire and journalism.

Spirito di Vino, now in its twelfth edition, one of the initiatives that the Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia organises especially for young people. Since its first edition, the competition
has enjoyed spectacular success. It is an international competition for cartoonists who wish to make an amusing, ironic comment on wine and wine culture. The jury, composed of leading figures from the worlds of satire and journalism, will select 30 of the best of the cartoons to arrive in Friuli within 31st August 2011 and present, the awards during the Friuli DOC event in Udine, on 17th September 2011.

I: group: artists from 18 to 35 years old
II: group: artists older than 36 years

Regulations:
* Art.1 Aim of the competition
Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia, in collaboration with Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, hereby announces a public competition named Spirito di Vino - "Spirit of Wine" competition for prizes to be awarded to artists of satirical cartoons concerning the world and culture of wine.
* Art.2 Eligibility
The participants to the competition will be divided into two groups. The first will be made of Italian and non-Italian artists from eighteen to thirty-five years old (they have to turn from eighteen to thirty-five during the year 2011). The second group will be made of Italian and non-Italian artists older than thirty-six years.
* Art.3 Terms and procedures for delivery of artwork
During the period from 28th May to 31st August 2011, artists should send, at their own expense and with appropriate protection, their artwork to the following address:

Artists can also e-mail their works by 31st August 2011 to Movimento Turismo del Vino at the web-page www.mtvfriulivg.it The artworks arrived after the above deadline will be excluded from the competition.
* Art. 4 Specifications for artwork
Cartoons should not exceed the dimensions of 30x40 cm in vertical (maximum three cartoons). The artwork can be in black and white or colour and can be drawn using any technique.
* Art. 5 Composition of the jury
Movimento Turismo del Vino will appoint a judging committee, including leading figures from the world of satire and journalism. The judgement of the committee shall be final and irrevocable.
* Art.6 Organisation and award ceremony
On Saturday 17th September, the authors of the works previously selected by the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan will be invited to Friuli Venezia Giulia. During the Friuli DOC festival, the jury will judge the works on display.
The first three artists in the rankings of both groups will be awarded a selection of fine wines from Friuli.
The prize-winning works shall be the property of Movimento Turismo del Vino FVG.
*The prizes:
For each of the two groups, the prizes will be the following: 1st prize - 75 bottles; 2nd prize - 50 bottles; 3rd prize - 25 bottles
Movimento Turismo del Vino does not guarantee delivery abroad.
* Art.7 Liability
The artists hereby hold all liabilities regarding the content and authenticity of the works presented and hereby authorize the organisers to publish and exhibit their works without any further notice. The authors of the works shall grant Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia the free of charge publication and sole rights of the images. The artworks will not be given back to the artists. Otherwise, the works shall be considered as donated to Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia. The artists shall, however, retain the artworks copyright with regard to third parties who, upon authorisation, may apply to re-use the works. The competing artists hereby agree to the processing and communication of their personal detailas in the context of, and for the aims of, the competition.
* Art.8 Acceptance of the regulations of the competition
The participation to the competition implies the complete and unconditional acceptance of these regulations. Data submitted will be treated in full compliance with the provisions of Law 196/2003 (privacy).
